ABOUT JACLOT

About JACLOT

JACLOT (Jonatan Bando) is a Japanese artist based in Vancouver, Canada. His work bridges traditional Japanese visual sensibilities with contemporary life, combining classical motifs, folklore, and modern cultural influences.

Working primarily in watercolor and mixed media, JACLOT explores themes of memory, place, myth, and the quiet presence of spirits within everyday landscapes. His paintings often reinterpret familiar scenes through a distinctly Japanese lens—where the poetic and the uncanny coexist.

Awards

  • Second Place — Artists’ Choice Exhibition (FCA), 2026 (Somonka)

  • Honourable Mention — 2026 EME (Koyou)

Ongoing Series

The Vancouver Meisho Series

A contemporary reinterpretation of Vancouver landmarks, inspired by the tradition of Japanese ukiyo-e “meisho” (famous place) prints. These works capture moments of stillness, light, and atmosphere—bringing together Canadian landscapes and Japanese storytelling.

The Kotodama Series

A flagship conceptual body of work exploring the spiritual weight of language. Beginning with handwritten words layered beneath paint and masking, these pieces investigate how meaning, emotion, and presence can be embedded into the surface of a painting. The result is an original depth that can only be fully experienced in the physical artwork.

Collecting & Availability

JACLOT’s work is available through limited edition collector releases, open edition prints, and original paintings. His pieces are collected internationally and can be found in independent shops, exhibitions, and pop-up art spaces across North America.
